Long 46 years may be meagre in comparison to “Kalchakra” but the seed shown by a group of people of the southernmost part of the Allahabad has become a part and parcel of “Durgotsab”, not only in Meerapur but also in the community puja history of Allahabad. One of the Founder Members and First Treasurer of this committee Sri Nirmal Chandra Roy is our President. He was unanimously decided to be the President of this organisation till his lifetime in the year 2004 by the committee. Under his able guidance and close supervision the Meerapur Barwari Durga Puja Committee is growing in leaps and bound.

Since it’s inception in the year 1976, this Puja has grown to be an abiding institution in Allahabad. During Durga Puja time, it’s festivities attract lakhs of visitors. The eminence of this Puja has been made possible by the untiring efforts of its President Sri Nirmal Chandra Roy who has associated himself for nearly half a century. He has served this committee as a Honorary Treasurer for more than 25 times including the Inaugural (First) and Silver Jubilee (25th Year) Puja.
Started with a budget of around Rs. 5,000/- for the very first Puja now it has become an affair of more than Rs. 5,00,000/- . The organizing ability of Sri Nirmal Chandra Roy and relentless labour of our Executive Committee and all the members made Meerapur Barwari Durga Puja a strong and famous social cultural organization in and around Allahabad. Sri Nirmal Chandra Roy is also associated with many prestigious institution like BSCA (Bengali Social & Cultural Association), Allahabad Kalibari Maintenance Society, Nikhil Bharat Banga Sahitya Sammelan etc.
Ahead of each General Body meeting, the Team Members of Meerapur Barwari Durga Puja Committee compiles a brief report for the President that summarizes each department’s highlights, milestones and provides an overview of recent activity.
In the words of Lao Tzu;”A journey of thousand miles must begin with a single step”. We have thus, already taken our first step in the year 1976. It would be a pleasure to continue our endeavor to perform Durga Puja with his help, we would be able to make our Golden Jubilee a grand Celebration under his supervision.
